FARIDABAD: A doctor, who allegedly removed patients’ kidneys in the name of conducting operations to remove stones and had been on the run since January, has been arrested. Raj Singh Tewatia (35) ran a private nursing home in Palwal near Faridabad and has been arrested from his in-laws’ house in Kirti Nagar in Delhi. He was accused of removing the kidney of a woman without her consent.
Two of his medical assistants have already been arrested. The doctor’s wife, a co-accused in the case, is still absconding.
Palwal SP Jagat Singh Hooda said the accused has been taken on two days police remand for interrogation.
Farzana (26) had undergone an operation for gall bladder stones at the private nursing home of Raj Singh and his wife Meenakshi, also a doctor, on November 1 last year. She was discharged after a stay in the clinic for nine days but the pain for which she was admitted persisted. Farzana again approached the doctor couple but they took the matter casually. She then got herself examined at a nursing home in her parental hometown of Meerut and was shocked to know that her right kidney was missing.
The family filed a report with Palwal police and a case was registered. Two medical assistants of the doctor couple, Neeraj and Satish, were arrested. However, the doctors went missing. With the arrest of the husband, police are hopeful of closing in on the wife soon.
